Tuesday 19 April 2016 Southill Area Centre Day 1 #
I went to Southill area centre and did an art project with the kids in the after school programme. Our job was to make sure that the kids drew a line across the page and that they drew their house on top of the line so they could all be placed next to each other. The outcome was good because the kids enjoyed themselves and had fun drawing their houses. Some of the kids that were there found it childish and the others enjoyed it. Drawing the houses worked on the day but the kids that found it childish started to lose interest but the others enjoyed it.

Work Experience

I went to the West End youth center for my work experience. I went there for two weeks. Ken was the name of my supervisor he told me what had to be done and what jobs had to be done. He checked on me often to make sure i was doing the job properly. I had to watch the kids and make sure that they stayed where they were supposed to. I also had to organise games so they would stay in the room and not to run off. I enjoyed it because it was a good chance to work with younger kids. The most difficult task was to try to get the kids to listen to me but after a few days they started to. I wouldn't like to do this as a career because it seems like a difficult job. To start this career you could get an apprenticeship and go to college while working part time.

What is a vox pop ?.
he term "vox pop" comes from the Latin phrase vox populi, meaning "voice of the people". The vox pop is a tool used in many forms of media to provide a snapshot of public opinion. Random subjects are asked to give their views on a particular topic and their responses are presented to the viewer/reader as a reflection of popular opinion.
For video and television vox pops, the interviewer approaches people "in the street" and asks them simple questions about the topic. These people will be new to interviews and will often be nervous, flustered, giggly, etc. It's therefore important to make them feel comfortable and relaxed.
When asking people to participate, fast is best - don't give them time to worry about how they look or what their friends will think. Use a short, sharp standard question such as "Would you mind answering a couple of quick questions about genetically modified food for TV3 news tonight?". (Note: Everyone will want to know what channel you're with and when the programme will be broadcast, so it helps to get that out of the way quickly.)
As always, ask open-ended questions and avoid leading questions. At the same time, you must be specific enough to obtain brief answers.
Camera shots are usually framed as an MCU or close up. It's important to think about the guest's looking direction, and get an equal number of left-facing and right-facing subjects. These can then be alternated in post-production. Some producers go so far as to get all answers with a particular opinion facing one way, and answers with an opposing opinion facing the other way. Whether or not you think this is effective is up to you — you may feel that it is too contrived.
It pays to ensure that an accurate mix of genders and races are represented, appropriate to the population being surveyed.
What group were you in?.
The boys group.
What were your questions?.
What type of teabags do you use and how do you think the earth began.
Was it hard to get people to speak?
Yes because the were all in a hurry.
What would you do different next time?
Get people before we go out so it will be easier and we would have more interviews.

Fundraiser
Community Leadership Project
The idea that i came up with for the Community Leadership Project is a soccer blitz in the factories youth space in southill, All the schools from the community will be invited and all split up into different groups and the will play each other.
There would be two games going at a time to make it faster and it would be five minutes a side so it wouldn't be too long either.
While the other kids are waiting they could have a pool competition or the could go up stairs to the canteen and have something to eat or drink. The food/drink would be free all the kids have to pay is 2 euro at the start and everything else is included. The winners of the blitz would get a trophy and all the other groups would get medals for turning up and being involved.
Food And Drink.
With the 2 euro that the kids give could go to the staff at southill to make sandwiches and give the kids a bottle of water and some biscuits afterwards.
Games.
soccer, pool tournaments, art competitions, face painting, handball.

Soccer Blitz
On Thursday the 21/1/16 we organised a soccer blitz for primary school children in Gealscoil Raheen. Pat Halpin got the school to come in and we got roughly about 7-8 children in each group. The children either got to play table tennis, soccer, pool or were in the art room with our tutor Christina. Our job was to make sure that the children got an equal amount of time at each activity and to make sure that they were safe once they were palying. There was about 60 children there all together and it was around 10 or 20 minutes they got at each activity. They got to make a poster and they got to do the name of their team which they got to name themselves.
